SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

With effect from the 2013/14 academic year, the Mwalimu Julius K.
Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund began granting Scholarship in the United
Republic of Tanzania. The Fund grants scholarship to top best undergraduate
female Tanzanian students to pursue Mathematics and Science studies in
Tanzanian universities. It is also partly used to sponsor both male and female
Tanzanians top best students to pursue undergraduate studies in Economics,
Information Technology, Accounting and Finance as well as best students
intending to pursue Master’s programmes in those fields.
The primary objective of the Fund is to promote interest and excellence
in Mathematics and Science courses among female students in the United Republic
of Tanzania.
The Scholarships are granted on academic merit and based on rigorous
selection process. Successful applicants are granted full scholarship including
a Laptop computer. The Scholarship covers all direct university costs: tuition,
registration fees and all direct student costs: meal, accommodation, books and
stationery allowances, field practical training, special faculty requirements and
other related costs as specified in the respective Institutions’ cost
structure.
The Scholarships are awarded in two major categories: Masters and Undergraduate.
1.
Undergraduate Category (4 Scholarships)
a)
Two (2) Scholarships – for
female best students who are to enrol in Bachelor
degree
programmes in Science and Mathematics
fields.
b)
Two (2 )
Scholarships – for female and male best students who are to enrol in
Bachelor degree programmes in the field of Economics,
Information Technology, Accounting and Finance.
Requirements for Category A Scholarship:
a) Applicants must be Tanzanian female citizens.
b) Applicants must have completed Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education
(ACSEE) in the year 2014
c)
Applicants
must be top students in the ACSEE examination holder of division one with A grade
in any one of the following subjects:

Advanced Mathematics
·
Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry)
d)
Applicants
must have a consistent high academic performance from
Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE)
e)
Applicants
must have applied/be admitted into full time undergraduate degree programmes in accredited universities of the
United Republic of Tanzania. The programme should commence in 2014/2015
academic year in any of the following fields: Mathematics and Science
Requirements for Category B Scholarship:
a) Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens.
b) Applicants must have completed Advanced
Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE)
in the year 2014
c)
Applicants
must be top students in the ACSEE examination holder of division one with A grade
in any one of the following subjects:

Physics
·
Advanced Mathematics
·
Economics,
·
Commerce
·
Accounting
d)
Applicants
must have a consistent high academic performance from
Certificate of Secondary Education
(CSEE)
e)
Applicants
must have applied/be admitted into full time undergraduate degree programmes in
accredited universities of the United Republic of Tanzania. The programme
should commence in 2014/2015 academic year in any of the following fields: Information Technology, Economics, Accounting and Finance.
2.
Masters Category (2 Scholarships)
The Scholarships are open to both female and male best students who are
to enrol in Masters degree programmes in the field of Mathematics, Science, Economics,
Information Technology, Accounting and Finance.
Requirements:
a) Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens.
b) Applicants must have obtained First Class or an Upper
Second Class (honours) in the undergraduate degree programmes with a minimum GPA
of 4.0.
c)
Applicants
must have completed Bachelor’s degree between 2013 and 2014.
d) Applicants must have applied/be admitted into a full
time Masters degree programme in accredited university of the United Republic
of Tanzania. The programme should commence in 2014/2015 academic year in any of
the following fields: Mathematics, Science,
Economics, Information Technology, Accounting and Finance.
Mode
of Application:
Applicants are required to complete Scholarship Application Forms which
can be accessed at the BOT website: www.bot.go.tz.
Printed forms can be obtained from the Fund Administrator, Bank of
Tanzania Head Office, 2 Mirambo Street, 11884, DAR ES SALAAM. The forms can also be obtained at the Bank of
Tanzania Branch Offices (Arusha, Zanzibar, Mwanza, Mbeya and the Bank of
Tanzania Training Institute, Mwanza).
All application forms should be completed and submitted to the
Chairperson, Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund, Bank of
Tanzania Head Office, 2 Mirambo Street, 11884, DAR ES SALAAM by 29th August, 2014 (16:00hr) for Masters Scholarship
and 12th September, 2014 (16:00hr) for Undergraduate Scholarship.
