Call for Undergraduate Application to Mzumbe Univesity 2014/2015


                                                            MZUMBE UNIVERSITY
                                                          (CHUO KIKUU MZUMBE)

APPLICATION  FOR  ADMISSIONS  INTO  DEGREE  PROGRAMMES,  DIPLOMA  AND
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES FOR THE 2014/2015

Mzumbe  University invites applications  from  qualified  Tanzanians  and  non-Tanzanians for
admission to the degree, diploma and certificate programmes offered by the University for the
academic year 2014/2015.
Applicants  who  wish  to  apply  for  bachelor  degree programmes  shall  apply  through  Tanzania
Commission for Universities (TCU). This includes those candidates with ‘A’ level qualifications
(Direct entry), with diploma qualifications (Equivalent entry) and Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL).  More information on the mode of application is available on TCU website.

Candidates falling in the following categories shall apply directly to the University:
1.  Those who wish to apply for bachelor programmes with equivalent qualifications in which
a candidate hold a relevant certificate from Mzumbe University and 3.5 or 2.0 A level points
(depending on the programme)
2.  Those who wish to apply for Diploma and Certificate Programmes

A.  ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIFFERENT DEGREE PROGRAMMES
1.  Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) – (Offered at Main Campus)
2.  Bachelor of Human Resources Management (BHRM) – (Offered at Main Campus)
3.  Bachelor of Local Government Management (BLGM) – (Offered at Main Campus)
4.  Bachelor of Health Services Management (BHSM) – (Offered at Main Campus)
5.  Bachelor  of  Public  Administration –Records  and  Archives  Management  (BPA-RAM) –
      (Offered at Main Campus)
All  five  degree  programmes  named  above  require a certificate  of  at  least second  class  level
from Mzumbe  University. In  addition,  an  applicant must  have  completed  Form  VI  with  at
least 3.5 points in the ACSEE. Where the principal pass does not include English Language,
the applicants must have obtained at least a credit in English Language at O-level.

6. Bachelor of Laws
    The applicants must be holders of a certificate in Law of at least second class level awarded
     by  Mzumbe  University. In  addition, an  applicant  must  also  have  completed  form  VI  with  at
      least 3.5 points in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education.

7.  Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (BAF) with options in:
(i)  Public Sector(PS) – (Offered at Main Campus)
(ii)  Business  Sector  (BS)  –  (Offered  at  both  Main  Campus  and  Mbeya  Campus
College)
An Applicant must be a holder of Mzumbe University’s Certificate in Accountancy (CA) of at
least  second class  level,  provided that  the  applicant  has  a  total of  at  least  3.5  points  in
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (“A” Level). 

8.   Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with options in:
(i)   Marketing Management – BBA (MKT) –  (Offered at both Main Campus and
Mbeya Campus College)
(ii)  Entrepreneurship Development – BBA (ED) – (offered at Main Campus)
An applicant must be a holder of a certificate of Business Management of at least second
class  level  from  Mzumbe  University,  provided  that  the  applicant  has  a  total  sum  of  at
least 3.5 points in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (“A” Level).


9.  Bachelor of Business administration – Procurement and Logistics Management
(BBA-PLM) – (offered at Main Campus)
The  applicants  must  be  holders  of certificate of  Logistics  Management  or  Certificate  of
Accountancy of  at  least  second  class level  from  Mzumbe  University,  provided  that  the
applicant  has  a  total  of  at  least  3.5  points  in  Advanced  Certificate  of  Secondary
Education (“A” Level).

10.  (i)  Bachelor  of  Science  in  Information  and  Communication  Technology  with
Management (BSc.ICT-M) – (offered at Main Campus)
(ii).  Bachelor  of  Science  in  Information  Technology  and  Systems  (BSc.ITS)  –
(offered at Main Campus)
(iii) Bachelor  of  Science  in  Information  and  communication  Technology  with
Bussiness (BSc.ICT-B) – (offered at Main Campus)
For the above three degree programs, the applicants must be holders of either
(i)  An  appropriate  certificate  of  at  least  second  class  level  from  Mzumbe  University
provided  that  the  applicant  has  a  total  sum  of  at  least  2.0    points  from  two
principal subjects in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education.
OR
(ii)  Full  Technician  Certificate  (FTC)  in  Computer  Science  or  related  Discipline  with
at  least  an  average  score  of ‘B’ and  at  least  a  credit  of  Basic  mathematics  at  ‘O’
Level.

11. Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics (B.Sc. AS) – (offered at Main Campus)
An applicant must be a holder of a certificate in Applied Statistics of at least second class
level from Mzumbe University, provided that the applicant has a total of at least 2.0 points
from two principal subjects in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (“A” Level).

12.  Bachelor  of  Science  in  Production  and  Operations  Management  (B.Sc.  POM)  –
(offered at Main Campus)
The applicants must be holder of a certificate in Applied Statistics of at least second class
level from Mzumbe University, provided that the applicant has a total of at least 2.0 points
from two principal subjects in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (“A” Level). 

13. Bachelor of Science in Library and Information Management (BSc. LIM) – (offered at
Main Campus)
The applicants must be holder of a certificate in library of at least second class level from
Mzumbe University, provided that the applicant has a total of at least 2.0 points from two
science subjects in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (“A” Level).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

1.    DIPLOMA IN LAW (DL) – (offered at Mbeya Campus College)
An applicant requires:
(i)  A certificate in Law of at least a second class level from an   accredited
institution.
OR
(ii)  At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE (“A” level). The principal pass
must be in English.
Where  the  principal  pass  does  not  include  English  in  the  Advanced  Certificate  of
Secondary Education, an applicant must have passed with a credit in English Language
at the CSEE (“O-level”).

2.  DIPLOMA  IN  HUMAN  RESOURCES  MANAGEMENT  (DHRM)  –  (offered  at  Mbeya
Campus College)

An applicant requires:
(i)  A  certificate  in  Human Resources  Management  (CHRM)  or  a  certificate    in  Local
Government  Administration  (CLGA)  or  any  other  relevant  certificate  of  at  least  a
second class level from an accredited institution
(ii)    At least one principal level pass in the ACSEE(“A” level). The principal pass must
be in English.
Where  the  principal  pass  does  not  include  English  in  ACSEE,  an  applicant  must  have
passed with a credit in English Language at the CSEE (“O-level”).

3.  DIPLOMA  IN  BUSINESS  ADMINISTRATION  (DBM)  –  (offered  at  Mbeya  Campus
College)

An applicant requires:
(i)   A certificate in Business Management or Administration of at least a second class
level from an accredited institution.
OR
(ii)  At  least  one  principal  level  pass  in  the  ACSEE  (“A”  level).  The  principal  pass  must
be in Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy.
Where  the  principal  pass  does not  include  Mathematics  or  Commerce  or  Accountancy
in  the  ACSEE,  an  applicant  must  have  passed  with  a  credit  in  Basic  Mathematics  or
Commerce or Book-keeping at the CSEE (“O-level”).

4.     DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTANCY (DA) – (offered at Mbeya Campus College)

An applicant requires:
(i)    A  certificate  in  Accountancy  of  at  least  a  second  class  level  from  an
accredited institution
OR
(ii)  At  least  one  principal  level  pass  in  ACSEE  (“A”  level).  The  principal  pass
must be in Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy.
Where  the  principal  pass  does  not  include  Mathematics  or  Commerce  or
Accountancy in the ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic
Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping at the CSEE (“O-level”).

5.  DIPLOMA  IN  LOGISTICS  MANAGEMENT  (DLM) – (offered at  Mbeya  Campus
College)

An applicant requires:
(i)  A certificate in Logistics Management (CLM) of at least a second class level
from an accredited institution.
OR
(ii)  At  least  one  principal  level  pass  in  the  ACSEE  (“A”  level).  The  principal
pass must be in Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy.
Where  the  principal  pass  does  not  include  Mathematics  or  Commerce  or
Accountancy in the ACSEE, an applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic
Mathematics or Commerce or Book-keeping at the CSEE (“O-level”).

6.  DIPLOMA IN APPLIED STATISTICS (DAS) – (offered at Main Campus)
An applicant requires:
(i)  A certificate in Applied Statistics (CAS) of at least a second class level from
an accredited institution.
OR
(ii)  At  least  one  principal  level  pass  in  the  Advanced  level  of  Secondary
Education (“A” level). The principal pass must be in Mathematics.
Where  the  principal  pass  does  not  include  Mathematics  in  the  ACSEE,  an
applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic Mathematics at the CSEE (“Olevel”).

7.  DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (DIT) – (offered at Main Campus)

An applicant requires:
(i)  A certificate in Information Technology (CIT) of at least a second class level
from an accredited institution
OR
(ii)  At  least  one  principal  level  pass  in  the  ACSEE  (“A”  level).  The  principal
pass must be in Mathematics or Physics.
Where the principal pass does not include Mathematics or Physics in the ACSEE,
an applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic Mathematics at the CSEE
(“O-level”).

D. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES

1. CERTIFICATE IN ACCOUNTANCY (CA) – (offered at Mbeya Campus College)
Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of  Secondary  Education  provided  that  the  passes  include  Basic  Mathematics  or
Commerce or Book-keeping.

2. CERTIFICATE IN APPLIED STATISTICS (CAS) – (offered at Main Campus)

Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Basic Mathematics.

3.  HUMAN  RESOURCES  MANAGEMENT  CERTIFICATE  (HRMC) – (offered  at  Mbeya
Campus College)

Applicants must have passed in at least four (4)  subjects  in  the  Ordinary  Certificate
of Secondary Education provided that the passes include English Language.

4. CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (CIT) – (offered at Main Campus)
Applicants must have passed in at least five (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of Secondary Education provided that the passes include Basic Mathematics.

5. CERTIFICATE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION (CLGA) – (offered at
Main Campus)

Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of Secondary Education provided that the passes include English Language.

6.  CERTIFICATE IN LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT (CLM) – (offered at Main Campus)
Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of  Secondary  Education  provided  that  the  passes  include  Basic  Mathematics  or
Commerce or Book-keeping.

7. CERTIFICATE OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (BMC) – (offered at Main Campus)

Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of  Secondary  Education  provided  that  the  passes  include  Basic  Mathematics  or
Commerce or Book-keeping.

9. CERTIFICATE IN LAW (CL) – (offered at Main Campus)

Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary Certificate
of Secondary Education provided that the passes include English Language.

10.  CERTIFICATE IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (CLIM) –
(offered at Main Campus)

Applicants must have passed in at least four (4) subjects in the Ordinary
Certificate of Secondary Education provided that the passes include science
subjects
NOTE:  (i)  Principal passes  in  Divinity/Islamic  Knowledge/bible  knowledge are NOT
considered.
(ii)  A pass in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education means a ‘D’
NOT an ‘E’.

E.   APPLICATION FORMS AND APPLICATION FEE

Application forms can be downloaded from our website: www.mzumbe.ac.tz.
A  non-refundable  application fee  of 30,000/= Tshs (or  30  USD  for  non  East  African
Citizens)  should  be  paid directly  to  the CRDB  Bank  –  Mzumbe  Account  No.
01J1012013400.  Forms  must  be  accompanied  by  evidence  of  payment  of  application
fee. Applications without such evidence will not be considered.

F.   MODE OF APPLICATION
All applicants under Equivalent Entry Scheme (with relevant certificate and required Alevel  Points) and  those  applying  for diploma  and certificate  programmes should  apply
direct to Mzumbe University by filling forms and that;-a)  An  application  must  be  accompanied  by  non-refundable  application  fee  of Thirty
Thousand  Only  (Tshs.  30,000)  for  East  African  or  USD  30  for  non-East African
citizens payable to Mzumbe University.

b)  All applications must be accompanied by genuine CERTIFIED copies of the relevant
certificates.  Applications  without CERTIFIED  copies  of  certificates  will  not  be
considered.
c)  An  application  with  Foreign Secondary Certificates should  be  accompanied  by
National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) Equivalence translations.
d)  Applicants with foreign certificate (equivalent qualifications) should be accompanied
by National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) translations.
e)  Candidates should return the applications forms duly filled to the undersigned, not
later  than 31th July 2014. Candidates  who  apply  through for  bachelor  degrees
through Tanzania Commission for Universities should check for the TCU deadline.
N.B    - Qualified candidates are very much encouraged to apply
- Applications without stated qualifications will not be processed.
